Presentation of the Organisation
The ISC III is the National Public Health Research Institute and the National Funding Agency for Health Research in Spain. It houses National Centres in the field of Public Health, Epidemiology and Health Services Research, including the Health Technology Assessment Agency (Agencia de Evaluación de Tecnologías Sanitarias -AETS). The ISCIII employs a total staff of 1164 and has participated in at least 16 projects within FP6.
AETS was created in 1994 within the ISCIII to provide guidance and facilitate the decision-making process of the Spanish Ministry of Health by providing objective evaluation of health technologies. To this effect, it offers health impact assessments and focus on the evaluation of new health technologies, development of criteria to follow for the provision of already established health technologies and assessment of health service organisations. AETS is the key pillar on the assessment of health technologies provided by the Spanish National Health System.
AETS is currently a partner of two FP7 projects and is starting negotiations with the EC as the coordinator of a successful FP7 proposal. AETS has been actively involved in previous EC research projects and networks such as EUnetHTA.
